The Maltese Government implemented a project, funded by the European Union under the Structural Funds Programme Malta, to install a Digital CCTV system to monitor Maltese ports, harbours, bays, quays and berths. The aim was to enhance maritime security, counter maritime security threats and monitor local waters for safety.
The first phase of the project consisted of the installation of Digital CCTV systems in the Grand Harbour, Marsaxlokk Bay, Marsamxett, Sliema, Cirkewwa, Mgarr and Bugibba port areas, which were linked to a central control room at the new MMA Maritime Trade Centre. In the future it is expected that the system will be expanded to other bays in Malta.
Alberta has been entrusted with this prestigious assignment, which is a first of its kind in Malta and the Mediterranean, as advised by experts. The installed CCTV system provides protection to the Maltese shores by means of state of the art equipment with high-powered cameras and lenses for both day and night vision. Transmission is wireless and directed to a central operations room in real time mode.
Coast Security Camera Network is operational 24 hours a day, supported by 16 day/night cameras equipped with advanced analytic capabilities. The lenses prevent loss of focus during the twilight hours while the camera lighting is target-aligned Infra Red. The connection of the system to the central operations room means that operators are viewing and controlling the remote cameras from a single station, at all times.The system is a comprehensive one, including an unintrruptible power supply and generators to ensure continuity at all times.
