Security TipsDO NOT DELETE
The following tips will provide you with some ideas of how to make your premises more secure:
Make sure the premises are well lit
Areas that benefit most from outdoor lighting are those that are most vulnerable, such as entry-ways, back alley-ways and windows.
Secure all entrances before you leave the premises and particulalrly after sunset
Make sure all doors, windows and entrances are securely locked. In the case of a commercial premises,it is also a good idea to restrict roof access at all times.
Avoid taking the trash out after dark
Prevent being susceptible to robbery by taking the trash out before it gets dark, since this time of day is prime time for attempted robberies. If you must go out after dark, walk to the dumpster in company: two people will be a deterrent to robbers in waiting.
Empty cash registers & leave them open at closing time
Remove temptation where possible, by showing that your cash register is empty. Remove all your cash and leave the drawers open. Often tills have been emptied by their owners, but not knowing this daring robbers cause damage to premises and the cash registers therein, only to find that that there is nothing of value inside.
Walk-in freezers need an alternate exit
We have seen this in films, but it does happen Robbers who surprise people within a premises they have broken into are known to react by either fleeing or attempting to keep the persons out of their way of the planned "project". On numerous occassions, people have been locked inside walk-in freezers present at commercial premises. Having an emergency exit, a holdup button or another way to communicate with the outside world that someone is trapped inside is very important.
Infrared security cameras
Cameras can be a significant deterrent to thieves and give valuable information to investigators when a crime occurs. Installing infrared security cameras will ensure that activity is recorded even in the darkext of nights.
Regular changing of alarm codes
Frequent changing of the security code for the alarm on your premises means that outsiders who may have got to know the code, either because it was given to them for temporary access or as a result of other malicious intentions, means that only the persons who are authorised to have the correct code will have the most recent version.
Record the serial and model numbers of all valuable equipment
Engrave serial numbers and other vital information directly onto the equipment and store the records off-site. This information can be a great help in recovering stolen property or prosecuting burglars.
