Marine

Alberta has become established as a leader in the maritime sector, providing design and consultancy, project management, operational diving and waterborne maintenance services.  These allow vessels to operate with maximum efficiency and with minimum disruption to schedules.

Accreditation

Alberta Marine promotes strict adherence to Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and has attained approval from DNV GL, Bureau Veritas, RINA, Lloyds Registry and ABS to carry out maintenance and certification of systems onboard vessels.

Our Team

Our team consists of engineers and technical staff who are certified and approved by the leading classification societies, and regularly receive overseas and in-house training to keep abreast with the latest technologies.  Training includes all aspects of shipboard safety and compliance, as well as courses in basic offshore safety induction and emergency (BOSIET).

Our Services

Alberta service various sea vessels ranging from cargo ships to cruise liners.  The range of services provided includes annual inspections and certification for fixed gas extinguishing, total flooding systems, foam systems, all types of portable and semi-portable extinguishers, self-contained breathing apparatus devices (SCBA), emergency escape breathing apparatus/devices (EEBA/D), analyses of breathing compressed air and smoke detection systems.

Standardised procedures, quality workmanship and strict compliance with all the rules and regulations ensure that clients receive an excellent service.  Alberta has gained the confidence of several shipping companies and has been awarded specialised retrofit contracts for High/Low Pressure Water Mist, Novec 1230, FM200 (see here) and CO2 system installations.

Alberta also provides the following services:

Underwater Surveys and Inspections

Alberta upholds valid certifications from leading classification societies to perform in-water inspections for pre-selling/purchasing, class, collision damage, fouling conditions, paint condition and more.  These are carried out with modern inspection techniques which give real-time information.  Alberta also provides CCTV, photographic and physical diver inspection surveys as required.  All surveys are accurately documented and followed by a detailed report to facilitate proper judgment of the inspected areas.  This service allows the client or classification to take important decisions on site, saving both time and money.  As Alberta is a class approved service company, the company can issue valid Certificates of Inspection upon completion of the service, ensuring that your vessel’s schedule will not be disrupted.

Hull Cleaning

Underwater hull cleaning has proved to be a cost saving tool for vessel operators.  This is done by reducing the frictional resistance which could otherwise lead to increased fuel consumption and reduced speed.  Higher fuel costs together with shorter turnaround times have led to an ever increasing demand for professional hull cleaning services.  The professionals at Alberta utilise the most advanced technology for hull maintenance applications and are also able to handle the required logistics, including permits.

Propeller Polishing Solutions

Fouled propellers impede the vessel’s speed, use more fuel, cause higher levels of pollution and are generally less efficient.  Depending on the degree of fouling, the ship may experience a reduction of up to 12% in efficiency.  In-water polishing results in a finish far superior to that of a dry polish, and additionally, there is no disruption to the vessel’s schedule thereby saving time and money.

Propeller or Blade Replacement

Alberta can have your propellers removed, balanced and replaced, saving you large amounts of money involved in hauling your vessel.

Permanent Shell Plating Repairs

Defective shell plating sections can be replaced underwater by class-approved permanent dry welding, using custom made cofferdams.

Valve Blankings and Repairs

Ships face problems when there is an insufficient intake of seawater for cooling the machinery, or for safety purposes such as firefighting.  When the ship experiences insufficient suction due to pipe or valve blockages, or damaged valves, underwater blanking of the relevant sea chest grids or openings enable ship-staff to carry out internal repairs on the systems.

Non Destructive Testing (N.D.T.)

Combining state-of-the-art NDT techniques with multi-disciplined NDT inspection personnel conduct, NDT inspection services allow clients to assess the true condition of their equipment, thereby reducing risk, improving operational safety, maximising performance and reducing costs.  NDT inspection data and reports can be used by clients and third parties to determine the structural integrity of their equipment and can assist in the early detection of possible structural failure.  Our range of specialist NDT inspection services includes Alternating Current Field Measurement (ACFM), Ultrasonic Flaw Inspection and Ultrasonic Wall Thickness Measurement, and more.

Underwater Welding and Cutting

Holes, punctures, fractures, cracks, openings, and fittings can be temporarily repaired by our highly efficient underwater welders.

Stern Seal Replacements

Professional divers/technicians, trained and certified by the major seal manufacturers, carry out repairs that were previously only possible above water.  The bonding of new seal rings, removal or installation of spacer rings as well as complete replacements can now be performed without interfering with the vessel’s schedule.

Machinery Replacement & Repair

We provide quality technical repair and complete replacement of underwater machinery. Replacement and repair services include the repairs of the components or the complete units of the bow/stern thruster, the stabilizer crux and the rudder.

Are you a seafarer? Have you heard of this?

In conforming to the provisions of the STCW Convention Regulation 1/14, and section A-1/14, of the STCW Code, any seafarers assigned to ships must receive refresher training for the STCW Basic safety combined as required by the convention. Seafarers serving on board any ship must, as of the 1st of January 2017, have documentary evidence of either having completed the basic combined training course or updated their training within the last 5 years.  Where can I enroll for this course in Malta?
