The Students at Alberta

Security Door
4 min read

Our team at Alberta does not only consist of the team members who are permanently employed with the company, but also provides summer internships to students who are still in the course of their studies. The following are some of the youths that joined us this summer 🙂

Kyle Schembri
boy 1  Age: 18

Education Institution: MCAST Paola

Course & Year: Advances Diploma in Business Administration Year 1

Position at Alberta: HR Assistant

What was your first impression of Alberta? Very welcoming and bubbly employees.  A colourful, wild and lively work force.

Now that you’ve been working here for a month or so, is this working experience living up to your expectations? It is above & beyond my expectations…opportunities are never ending, staff confidence increases each and every day. Change and improvements are constantly happening throughout and it is clearly visible.

Do you see a future with Alberta? With what I’ve seen working with the HR department so far, one can grow both in terms of career and character wise so I believe that I can benefit from this myself too.

Do you own any pets? If not what animal would you love to take care of? No I do not have any pets yet, but I wish to have a Siberian husky, although it isn’t quite healthy for them to live in Malta due to climate. My mother is a clean freak so that`s a no go for now, definitely will buy one when I will have my own home.

Is there something that you’ve always wanted to do?  Go on a 4X4 overland holiday with friends… it would be an amazing experience for me as I love cars.

What is your favourite childhood movie? Spirit

Others’ habits that you find annoying? Broken promises

Julian Magri

boy 2 Age: 21

Education Institution: University of Malta

Course and Year: Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 4th Year Student

Position at Alberta: Junior Engineer

What was your first impression of Alberta? On my first day I was excited to get familiar to areas related to safety and security. I was surprised with the number of different devices with different applications and features that are already available while also keen to contribute in testing new devices.

Now that you’ve been working here for a month or so, is this working experience living up to your expectations? As I expected, during this initial period it was important to understand the basic principles of the devices in order to build up enough knowledge on the area

Do you see a future with Alberta? Yes, because my position at Alberta is directly related to the what I am currently studying at University, by applying the knowledge learnt on practical applications. I am also looking into including the area of safety and security in my final year dissertation project (for which i am basically looking into the control system of an Autonomous Quad-copter) so as to continue linking my studies with this field of work.

Do you own any pets?  We have a few pet birds at home and I am also thinking of getting a small aquarium for goldfish.

Is there something that you’ve always wanted to do? Go skydiving.

What is your favourite childhood movie? The Harry Potter films.

Others’ habits that you find annoying? People who are not punctual

Nicole Portelli

girl 3 Age: 19

Education Institution: University of Malta

Course and Year: Bachelor of Laws (Honours), Second Year

Position at Alberta: Junior Marketing Administrator

What was your first impression of Alberta? Apart from the friendly environment and attitude that I was welcomed with, I immediately realized that apathy is not an option at Alberta.

Now that you’ve been working here for a month or so, has this working experience lived up to your expectations? Yes it has, because during this month I could see that although everyone likes to have fun, everyone takes his work seriously in order to be fast and efficient.

Do you see a future with Alberta? I am a part-time summer worker and I am a law student, working within a department not relevant to my field of studies, however, considering Alberta’s growth and its several networks and connections, I might encounter the company through different business relationships.

Do you own any pets? I used to own a cat, and I would love to have one again.

What is something that you’ve always wanted to, or would like to do? Go on a holiday in New York.

What is your favourite childhood movie? The Lion King.

Others’ habits that you find annoying? People chewing with their mouth open.
