Having an access control and master key system is a powerful and flexible way of ensuring a high level of security on your premises. In its simplest form, a master key system allows each key holder to access pre-designated doors within a building. A master key can be designed to open a set of locks which are part of a specific group of locks. Each individual lock can be operated both by its own proper key (ie. the change key), by the master key for its specific group, or by the grand master key. The grand master key is the only key able to open every lock in the entire group.
Master key systems are highly sought after for office buildings, schools, hospitals, and public and government buildings. In the case of business offices, office workers may have a key to open their own office, but this will not allow them to open other colleagues’ offices if they are not allowed access to them. However, the master key will enable the chief of security to open any of the offices in the building, while the grand master key would allow the director to open each and every door within the building.
